This section of Vancouver Travel Tips wil help you plan your trip by giving you a good idea of what to expect for your Vancouver vacation weather. Whether you're coming here for a business trip or a weekend getaway, weather matters a lot.
Spring
The end of the rain and drizzle is in sight! March to the end of April brings a few more sunny days as the canopy of winter clouds and rain begins to lift. You can expect temperatures in the range of 10 to 18 degrees C (50 to 65 F).
A bonus for mid-April: thousands of cherry blossoms in bloom all over Vancouver, Victoria and their suburbs!
The month of May in Vancouver and southwestern B.C. can be very pleasant, and the Alaska cruise season begins at the start of this month.
Summer
Summer weather in Vancouver BC usually extends from June till mid-September. It's a great time of year to be in Vancouver and the province of British Columbia. Warm, sunny days are most common, with temperatures in the 20 to 26 degree range. Great time for a picnic by the beach!
It rarely gets extremely hot in Vancouver (the hottest summer temps in recent memory were about 30 degrees) but the humidity from the Pacific can make any hot day feel a little extra warm.
Autumn in Vancouver
The latter half of September as well as the months of October and November are quite diverse weather-wise in Vancouver. The end of September can be an excellent time to see the city, take an Alaska cruise, or take a daytrip to the Sunshine Coast.
October can often be fine for the first 10 or 15 days, but after that the sunny & partly cloudy days start to give way to heavy, overcast skies. And mid to late November usually soak the city with almost daily rain, heavy at times.
Winter in Vancouver
Although mid-November to the end of February are probably the least favorable months for Vancouver weather wise, it's probably what gives the city some of it's character!
Expect cool, damp days with lots of drizzle. Winter daytime high temperatures in Vancouver hover between 6 to 9 degrees. It doesn't actually pour down rain as much as you might think, except in winter storms.
It's important to mention that there are many "rainy" winter days here in the Lower Mainland where the rain is little more than what are commonly called "showers", a light mist drizzling or spitting down.
On the average, Vancouver gets it's only snowfall from mid December to mid January. It usually melts as it hits the ground, but snow has been known to even stay as long as a month in some parts of the lower mainland. In the higher elevations of North and West Vancouver, the snow stays on the ground a little longer.
Vancouver Rain Statistics:
On the average, Vancouver gets around 165 days a year with some kind of rainfall. Average monthly rainfall in the winter months between November and March are between 105mm to 165mm.
